Acid Techno July 2026: Function, Acid Jesus & Sonic Groove

With Aeternum (Existenz), Function puts out a mini-LP on Tresor whose tracks were made between 2016 and 2019 – and GROOVE, in its Records of the Week on 3 July 2026, singles out its subliminal bursts of acid. So acid techno in July 2026 is not just about new music but also a trip into the archive. These are the records you can actually verify.

Function: acid bursts from the archive

Function is Dave Sumner. According to Decoded Magazine, Aeternum (Existenz) closes a cycle that began in 2019 with the album Existenz and moved through Subject f (Transcendence), Awakening from the Illusory Self and the Green EP. The magazine names the seven stages of alchemy as its inspiration.

The centrepiece is “City of Luz”, listed at Hard Wax at 12:57 minutes. GROOVE hears a sublime ceremonial character in it. “Growth Cycle (Hermetic Mix)” is a new version of a track from the Existenz album: instead of Robert Owens, Stefanie Parnow now sings. The digital version adds the deep electro piece “November 29” and the ambient track “Rubedo”. The record is dedicated to John Mendez aka Silent Servant, Sumner's longtime collaborator. Hard Wax sums up the sound as acid-leaning techno to ambient.

Trevor Dale: raw acid from early-90s twelves

Amsterdam label Mono Horizon brings together three releases by English producer Trevor Dale on Smiling / Summer 88; he produced only a handful of twelves in the first half of the nineties. “Smiling” and “Summer 88” date from 1990 and, according to GROOVE, combine Larry Heard-style Chicago house with proto-hardcore and bleep techno.

For you as an acid fan, though, “Morning Shuffle” is the reason to grab it: GROOVE describes the track, originally released under Dale's alias Torrington Foe, as wild acid techno that escalates hard. Robert Owens sings on “Take Me Back”.

Acid Jesus: Flügel and Wuttke across three records

In the early nineties, Roman Flügel and Jörn Elling Wuttke produced together as Acid Jesus. Rawax now reissues the debut album as a 3x LP in a gatefold cover (RX LP 03). According to Hard Wax, it collects the first three EPs from the early nineties plus tracks previously only available on CD – ranging across acid techno, house and chillout. The tracklist includes “Move My Body”, “Faith In Acid”, “Razzblaster” and “Jesus”.

Sonic Groove: Damon Wild and CAT 1

Damon Wild's Chaos Theatre (SG26107) delivers six tracks, from “Intimacy” to “Mass of a Million Suns”; Hard Wax describes them as deep, hypnotising, acidic techno trips. The Sonic Groove Old Gold series (SGOG-01) also brings Revolution / Axion by CAT 1: two mid-90s acid techno pieces, re-edited by Adam X with an enhanced kick drum – 10:55 and 9:26 minutes long, built for long mixes.
