Astra Creative Audio Tesseracto 4D revealed

Astra Creative Audio has introduced Tesseracto 4D, an MPE wavetable synthesizer for macOS operated via mid-air hand gestures.

Astra Creative Audio has presented an overview of Tesseracto 4D. The software synthesizer uses wavetables and runs on macOS.

Gesture control and sound generation

The instrument can be operated without contact using hand movements. For this purpose, the companion app Tesseracto CAM captures both hands through a Mac camera or an iPhone. Parameters such as tilt, height, and open or closed hands are converted into per-note MPE data. Detection operates locally on the machine, and visual data never leaves the system.

The synthesizer features an oscillator that scans tables across four dimensions (X, Y, Z, and W). In addition to gesture input, the plug-in can be played with standard MPE controllers or conventional keyboards. Each individual finger commands pitch, pressure, and slide independently.

Features and effects

Sound shaping tools include filters, envelopes, unison, glide, an arpeggiator, and a 4D path. A 4D modulation matrix integrates 3D LFOs and chaos. The built-in Hyper-FX rack provides seven effects that can be arranged in series, in parallel, or within a feedback loop:

  • Quantum Folder
  • Phase Flanger
  • Chrono Delay
  • Void Shimmer
  • Hyper-Stereo Displacer
  • Hyper-Compressor
  • Vintage Reverb 70s

The sound library includes 80 presets divided into 10 categories. The program functions as a VST3 and Audio Unit on macOS 13 or later, running on Intel and Apple Silicon systems.
