The Denon DJ SC LIVE 4 packs four decks, Wi-Fi streaming and built-in speakers into a single unit – no laptop required. Denon DJ launched it in November 2022 alongside the smaller SC LIVE 2. For the first time, an Engine DJ all-in-one puts a club-layout mixer at its centre, and that changes how you work on it.

Club layout instead of controller style
The mixer follows the design of a club mixer: four channel strips with a dedicated FX section to their right. Digital DJ Tips compares it to the Denon DJ X1850 and to Pioneer DJ gear. If you are used to Pioneer club equipment, this layout will feel more familiar than the classic controller layout of the Prime 4.
On each channel you get four knob-controlled Sweep FX: Filter, Noise, Echo and Wash. The Layer buttons switch between decks 1 and 3 and decks 2 and 4, while the display stacks all four waveforms in channel order.
The 6-inch jog wheels have their own central display for BPM and elapsed time. The RGB pads handle cues, loops, roll and slicer.
Streaming, USB and cloud: getting your music on board
Over Wi-Fi you log in to your streaming service directly on the unit. Denon lists Apple Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, Beatport, Beatsource, SoundCloud GO+ and TIDAL and speaks of more than 100 million songs in CD quality.
You prepare your own library in Engine DJ Desktop and play it from the SD card slot and two USB ports. Alternatively, you pull it from the cloud via Dropbox.

Who the SC LIVE 4 is for
According to Denon, the built-in speakers with volume knob and on/off switch are meant for practising, livestreaming, content creation and personal monitoring at gigs. Digital DJ Tips accordingly sees the target audience as serious home DJs, livestreamers and semi-pro mobile DJs.
You should know the limits: turntables and CD players cannot be connected, and the aux input shares its slot with one microphone channel. The housing is plastic rather than metal, and power comes from an external supply.
If you prefer to play with software, switch to Computer Mode: Serato DJ Pro is unlocked, while Virtual DJ needs its own licence. According to Denon, the unit also works with the LC6000 deck controllers.
Where it fits: between Prime 4 and XDJ-RX3
Its closest in-house relative is the Denon DJ Prime 4: metal housing and a 10-inch display, but a classic controller layout and no speakers. Outside the Engine ecosystem, Digital DJ Tips names the Pioneer DJ XDJ-RX3 as the direct alternative.
The smaller SC LIVE 2 has two channels and does without the jog wheel displays.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Denon DJ SC LIVE 4 need a laptop?
No. Engine DJ runs directly on the unit, and music comes from USB, SD card, Dropbox or streaming services over Wi-Fi. You only need a computer for Computer Mode with Serato DJ or Virtual DJ.
How big is the SC LIVE 4 display?
It measures 7 inches and supports multi-touch. The Prime 4 has a 10-inch display.
Can I connect turntables to the SC LIVE 4?
No. Besides the two microphone inputs there is only an RCA aux input, which takes over one microphone channel. There are no inputs for turntables or CD players.
