The Maschine+ by Native Instruments is no ordinary groovebox: It features its own quad-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and operates completely independently of a computer. If you want to make beats on the go, the manufacturer states you only need the device itself and a power outlet.

A computer in the body of a groovebox
The heart of the Maschine+ is its own processing unit: a quad-core processor and 4 GB of RAM in dual-channel mode. Native Instruments describes the device on its product page as a standalone production and performance instrument that requires no computer. Two color displays, as well as touch-sensitive encoders and a 4D encoder, handle the operation that would otherwise take place on a laptop screen.
16 pads, many instruments
You play using 16 velocity-sensitive pads, which the manufacturer says are designed for finger drumming “like on a real kit.” Included are several in-house instruments and effects, including the MASCHINE Factory Selection, as well as the sound engines PHASIS, RAUM, DRUMLAB, and ETHEREAL EARTH. For additional storage, a 64 GB SD card is included, which NI states can be expanded up to 1 TB.
Audio interface and power supply
The Maschine+ also comes with its own audio interface with two balanced ¼-inch outputs, two ¼-inch inputs, a microphone input, and a headphone output. The device is powered by the included power supply, which can be secured against accidental disconnection. Via WLAN, you can also download new sounds, instruments, and effects directly onto the device without needing to connect a computer.
