Pioneer DDJ-FLX6-GT: a 4-channel controller with CDJ-3000-sized jog wheels, Merge FX and support for rekordbox, Serato, VirtualDJ and Traktor.
The Pioneer DDJ-FLX6-GT isn't a brand-new controller but a targeted update: AlphaTheta announced it on 15 November 2022 as the replacement for the popular DDJ-FLX6. What's new are graphite jog wheels with a rubberized outer ring, a matt grey body and broader software support. The question for you: what does it bring to the table when you want to run four channels?

What defines the DDJ-FLX6-GT
Pioneer carries the control layout over unchanged from its predecessor. It echoes the club-standard CDJ + DJM setup – so when you later step up to a club booth, the controls are where you expect them. The jog wheels are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 and show the playhead position right on the platter.

If you already own a DDJ-FLX6, you don't necessarily need to switch: according to Pioneer, the original can also be used with VirtualDJ after a firmware update.
Merge FX and Jog Cutter: transitions at the push of a button
The centerpiece is Merge FX. You press the knob and turn it slowly or quickly – depending on the pattern, the pitch climbs and a snare fires at ever shorter intervals until you drop the next track. According to Pioneer, this lets you switch even between tracks with completely different BPM or key.
In rekordbox you build the effects yourself: 41 effect types across the four categories Build FX, Build Sample, Release FX and Drop Sample add up to more than 9,000 combinations, and you can save eight patterns of your own. With Serato DJ Pro, VirtualDJ or TRAKTOR PRO 3 you get four presets instead of eight. The DJ Hookup describes Merge FX outside rekordbox as an approximation built from each program's own features.
Jog Cutter applies a scratch effect to the last Hot Cue you used whenever you move the jog wheel, with ten patterns to choose from. Sample Scratch in rekordbox loads sounds from the sampler onto the decks so you can scratch with your own samples.

Who the DDJ-FLX6-GT is for
Pioneer aims the unit at DJs who use several programs or switch hard between genres – that's what Merge FX is built for. For techno sets with long blends, the four channels and big platters give you the tools; the transition effect is more of a bonus than the core here. The DJ Hookup recommends the software in this order: rekordbox, Serato, VirtualDJ, Traktor.

What is the difference between the DDJ-FLX6 and the DDJ-FLX6-GT?

Does the DDJ-FLX6-GT work with Traktor?
Yes, with TRAKTOR PRO 3 via a TSI mapping file; you buy the software license separately. According to The DJ Hookup, setup is more involved than with rekordbox or Serato, and Jog Cutter doesn't work there.
Does the DDJ-FLX6-GT need a power adapter?
No. The controller is USB bus powered (DC 5 V, 500 mA) and class compliant, so no drivers are needed.
