Tresor.West to close at the end of the year

· re:union Radio editorial · 1 min read

Dortmund techno venue Tresor.West is ending operations at the end of the year. The team is now looking for new operators to take over the space.

Techno club Tresor.West in Dortmund will end regular operations at the end of the year. A search is underway for new operators for the venue located at Phönixplatz in Hörde, which has an indoor capacity of around 750 guests.

Reasons for the closure

Club founder Dimitri Hegemann cited persistent financial pressure following the pandemic and lower-than-expected revenues after the restart in May 2022. Key factors include shifting nightlife habits, rising operational expenses, and declining attendance. Audiences focus increasingly on summer festivals and specific event brands, which weakens long-term loyalty to genre-specific clubs. According to Hegemann, a programme exclusively focused on techno is not economically sustainable under these conditions.

Closing events and open call

The club has announced a series of closing nights running across October, November, and December. At the same time, the venue is intended to remain an active cultural space. Event organisers, collectives, and hospitality teams are invited to submit concept proposals by 15 November via presse@tresorwest.com.

Located in the vaults of the former Phoenix West industrial site, the premises also include a 2,000-square-metre garden area, which has hosted cross-generational dance gatherings since August.
