Retrospective on northern German club history
The ARD Mediathek presents the second episode of the documentary “Club-Legenden – Diskotheken, die Geschichte schrieben”. Filmmakers Jonas Kühlberg and Ralf Dörwang focus on the 1980s and 1990s.
Four venues were selected for the programme from over 300 submissions:
- Voilà in Hamburg: Launched in 1983 as a music gallery in Eilbek, it hosted Sven Väth as early as 1987. During the 1990s, run by twin brothers Frederik and Gerrit Braun, it evolved into a focal point for house and techno.
- Ziegelei in Groß Weeden
- Fiz Oblon in Bippen
- Gummibärchen in Schwerin
Broadcast and previous edition
At the beginning of 2026, NDR opened the series by examining venues in northern Germany. That edition covered the large-scale discotheque Zeppelin and Hamburg's UNIT as the city's first official techno club.
The second episode is now available in the ARD Mediathek and will be broadcast on NDR television on Monday, 26 October 2026, at 22:45.
