Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX10: Live Mashups via STEMS Technology

The Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX10 is a 4-channel performance controller for rekordbox and Serato DJ Pro featuring STEMS technology. According to Pioneer DJ, it unlocks new creative possibilities like pulling off mash-ups on the fly during a set, without laborious track preparation beforehand. It lets you independently manipulate the three core components of a song — Vocals, Drums, and Inst (the remaining instruments including bass and synths).

How the STEMS function works live

You load a regular track from your library, and rekordbox splits it into the three parts. Color-coded buttons on the unit show you at all times which part is currently active. With the PART ISO function, you adjust the volume of Vocals, Drums, or Inst individually or mute them completely, while FX PART SELECT determines which part a Beat FX or Sound Color FX applies to. The multi-colored jog ring — reportedly the first of its kind in Pioneer DJ's product line — additionally indicates which part is playing, but can also be freely colored to your taste.

On-Jog Display and control concept

The jog wheels themselves get an expanded display with four modes: Deck Info mode shows the overall waveform (virtual deck in Serato DJ Pro), Waveform mode displays the zoomed waveform of both decks, Artwork mode shows the cover of the playing track, and DJ Logo mode lets you load a custom image or logo via the Image Transfer Tool. For transitions between tracks, there's also Mix Point Link: set the start and end points of a song so the next track locks in automatically and cleanly.

Controls and connections

A total of eight illuminated Performance Pads per side trigger Hot Cues, Pad FX, Beat Jump, and the Sampler. New to the lineup is the 4-sensor MAGVEL FADER for finer volume adjustment. The computer connects via a single USB Type-C cable, and a Firmware Update Manager automatically notifies you of available updates.

What distinguishes STEMS from classic vocal removal?

Classic tools usually only remove vocals from a track. The STEMS function on the DDJ-FLX10, by contrast, provides three separately controllable parts of a song — Vocals, Drums, and Inst — which can be individually muted, processed with effects, or copied to another deck.

Does the DDJ-FLX10 work with djay Pro?

Yes, since July 2025 the controller is officially compatible with the Mac and Windows versions of Algoriddim's djay Pro, including control of Neural Mix functions via the Active Stem button and EQ knobs.
