Merge FX: Building Transitions Between Genres
Merge FX is the DDJ-FLX6's key innovation. Instead of a single effect, each preset stores a combination of build effect, build sample, release effect, and drop sample. Press and turn the knob to build tension, regardless of the next track's BPM or key. Release the knob, and the effect triggers, the sample plays, and the running track stops automatically — so all that's left is hitting play on the other deck. In rekordbox (PC/Mac), the four building blocks can be freely combined from 41 effect types each, yielding more than 9,000 possible patterns, according to AlphaTheta.
Jog Cutter and Sample Scratch
The Jog Cutter lays down pro-sounding scratch effects on the last used hot cue or the current playback position. Ten scratch patterns are on tap, switched by moving the position shown on the jog wheel display to the desired angle. This is complemented by Sample Scratch, a new pad mode in rekordbox that lets you load your own sampler sounds onto the decks and scratch them — ideal for spontaneous live remixes.
Club-Standard Layout
The DDJ-FLX6's layout mirrors the club-standard CDJ/DJM setup so switchers feel at home instantly. The jog wheels are full-size, matching the dimensions of the flagship CDJ-3000 player, and feature their own position display right on the wheel. A dark grey matte chassis with revised jog wheels completes the package.
