Le magazine culturel Twist sur Arte analyse la nostalgie des années 1990. L'émission revient sur l'eurodance, la mode et l'émergence d'Internet.
Club culture and Eurodance revisited
In a recent edition of the cultural magazine Twist, broadcaster Arte examines the renewed fascination with the 1990s. Titled „90s – Alter Lifestyle, neue Sehnsucht“, the episode explores why this decade resonates strongly with audiences today.
Musically, the programme highlights the lasting appeal of Eurodance, citing performances by acts such as Dr. Alban, Mr. President, and Eiffel 65 before audiences of tens of thousands in arenas. Visual styles of the period are also featured: British photographer Eddie Otchere reflects on the emergence of jungle and drum ’n‘ bass, showcasing work that is currently on view at Tate Britain.
Digital beginnings and streaming availability
Beyond nightlife culture, the documentary covers the onset of the digital era. Contributors from fashion, net art, and literature discuss early enthusiasm for the internet, framing the years between the fall of the Berlin Wall and the turn of the millennium as an optimistic phase.
The broadcast can be streamed on the Arte media platform until 31 October 2027.
