Through a nationwide survey, LiveKomm is collecting data on the economic status of German music venues and festivals.
The LiveKomm (Live-Musik-Kommission) has initiated a nationwide survey to assess the economic conditions of German venues and festivals. Titled “Club- und Festival-Monitoring 2026”, the initiative calls on operators and promoters to submit data in order to create industry transparency and build political leverage.
Multiple pressures on venues
Music venues are currently facing significant strain caused by several developments:
- Sharply increased fixed costs covering energy, staffing, and maintenance.
- Shifts in going-out habits, with younger demographics purchasing fewer tickets or avoiding long nights out due to elevated living expenses.
- Declining per-capita bar consumption, which serves as a crucial revenue stream for many clubs.
Budget reductions and lack of support
Regional findings underscore the severity of the situation. Data from the Berlin Clubcommission indicates that nearly forty percent of local venues recorded financial losses last year, leading to pessimistic future projections among operators.
At the same time, cultural budgets face cutbacks. Federal funding for festivals and clubs is challenged, programs such as the federal soundproofing program face uncertainty, and structural core funding remains absent. Calls for stable assistance funds have not been answered. Completing the free questionnaire requires approximately 15 minutes.
