Bitwig and AlphaTheta link DJ collections directly to the DAW. Version 6.1.4 reads analysis data, Hot Cues, and beat grids from rekordbox.
Bitwig and AlphaTheta have announced an integration linking rekordbox libraries directly with Bitwig Studio. Starting with version 6.1.4, the DAW reads rekordbox collections and track analysis data, allowing existing DJ tracks to be edited and remixed inside the software.
Features of the Integration
When rekordbox is installed on the same computer, the collection appears in Bitwig Studio's right-hand browser panel. Tracks can be filtered and searched by artist, genre, file type, or playlist. Opening a track transfers BPM, musical key, and beat grids directly into a Bitwig project. Hot Cues set in rekordbox are converted into arrangement cue markers.
Tracks can also be split into clips using song structure analysis data, and detected vocal sections can be displayed as dummy clips. In the Clip Launcher, pre-cut segments can be rearranged and combined with BPM-matched loops or MIDI parts. Built-in stem separation across all Bitwig Studio editions is scheduled for this winter.
Requirements and Studio Plan
The integration is available for Bitwig Studio, Producer, and Essentials on macOS and Windows. It requires an active upgrade plan for version 6.1.4 and rekordbox version 6.x or later installed on the same machine.
AlphaTheta has also launched the Studio Plan subscription, which includes Bitwig Studio Essentials. Essentials offers core editing tools, selected synthesizers, effects, and supports audio and MIDI workflows. It is managed via AlphaTheta's Studio License Manager software. Bitwig notes that copyright regulations apply when using protected musical works outside personal use.
