Daft Punk: Lost 90s DJ mix unearthed by British DJ

British DJ Ralph Lawson has recovered a previously lost 1997 Daft Punk recording from his personal tape archive.
Rediscovery after nearly three decades
A missing mix from Daft Punk has been brought to light by UK selector Ralph Lawson. The session originated during the 1990s as part of promotional efforts for their debut album Homework and was initially broadcast in 1997 on Lawson's radio program Trans Europe Express on KISS FM.
Lawson stated that the cassette had remained inside a storage box in his personal archives for close to thirty years. The damaged DAT recording was restored by specialists at Bristol-based Greatbear. Following its audio recovery, the set was shared on Soundcloud, accompanied by an Instagram video documenting Lawson listening to it.
Contents of the recording
The performance appears to have been performed on vinyl and contains material from several artists:
- Three tracks taken from Daft Punk's album Homework
- Two early individual productions by Thomas Bangalter
- Contributions from musical collaborators such as Romanthony and Armand Van Helden
- Additional titles by artists including Basement Jaxx, Boris Dlugosch, and House Of Jazz
Daft Punk concluded their career in 2021 and had not delivered a public DJ set since 2001 at the London club Fabric. An earlier recording from 1994 on FG Radio remains their earliest known digital archive broadcast.
