Novation presents the FLpad, an 8x8 grid controller designed for direct FL Studio control, featuring 64 velocity-sensitive RGB pads.
Novation has introduced the FLpad, a new 8x8 grid controller designed specifically for controlling the FL Studio music software. This hardware continues the collaboration between Novation and Image-Line that started with the FLkey. While based on Novation's Launchpad series, its user interface, firmware, and DAW scripts were created particularly for the FL Studio Channel Rack.
Features and Hardware Workflow
The FLpad features 64 velocity-sensitive pads with RGB backlighting. It provides direct hardware access to the step sequencer and the Channel Rack. Producers can create and edit drum patterns, basslines, and melodies for up to four instruments simultaneously. Patterns can be created, selected, duplicated, or deleted directly on the device. Dedicated buttons for transport control as well as undo and redo are also included.
For musical input, a note mode supports chromatic playing or performance within selected scales. Individual notes can be adjusted directly via the grid using the Graph Editor. Additionally, the pad grid can serve as a row of faders for the Channel Rack mixer, which the manufacturer states enables a groovebox-style workflow. Dedicated finger-drumming layouts are included for FPC, Slicex, and Fruity Slicer.
Included Software and Customization
Custom layouts for other software and external gear can be configured via Novation Components. The hardware includes six months of the FL Studio Producer Edition, instruments and effects from UVI, GForce, and Klevgrand, as well as lessons provided by Melodics.
