Akai Professional has introduced the Akai MPK Mini Plus 2. The compact keyboard controller is designed for hybrid setups combining computers and hardware instruments.
Hardware and Controls
The unit features 37 mini keys spanning three octaves, eight velocity- and pressure-sensitive RGB MPC pads with a dual-bank function, as well as dedicated pitch bend and modulation wheels. Control options include eight assignable 360-degree rotary knobs and a push encoder, rounded out by transport buttons. A 160 x 80 pixel color LCD shows active parameters directly on the device, minimizing the need to watch a computer monitor. The controller measures 5.4 x 49.3 x 19.2 cm and weighs 1.46 kg.
Connectivity and Software Integration
The rear panel provides several options for routing signals to external gear:
- USB-C for MIDI communication and power
- Three 3.5 mm CV/Gate outputs for modular systems
- One 5-pin MIDI output
- One sustain pedal input
Built-in creative features include an arpeggiator, Chord Creator, and Note Repeat, alongside Glitch, Mutate, Strum, Freeze, and Follow. The hardware integrates with MPC Standalone and MPC Desktop and includes mappings for MPC 3, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, and FL Studio. NKS compatibility is included for Native Instruments Komplete Kontrol.
The included package contains Ableton Live Lite 12, MPC Beats, the Studio Instrument Collection with over 1,000 sounds from AIR Music Technology, Moog Music, and Akai Professional, Native Instruments Komplete Select Akai Edition, as well as trial access for Melodics and Splice.
