Arturia MiniFreak 49 introduced

· re:union Radio editorial · 1 min read

Arturia expands its hybrid synthesizer lineup with the MiniFreak 49, offering full-size keys, an XYZ touch matrix, and new sound options.

Arturia has introduced the Arturia MiniFreak 49. This version of the six-voice hybrid synthesizer features a larger chassis along with 49 full-size, semi-weighted keys with velocity and mono aftertouch, replacing the 37 slim keys of the original model.

Expanded hardware and control

The unit includes aluminum pitch and modulation wheels as well as an enlarged control surface. A pressure-sensitive XYZ touch matrix combines modulation, navigation, and performance controls in a single interface. It handles modulation routing, preset selection, and control over macros, gate, and the Spice feature. Bipolar and vector layouts provide transitions between opposing settings, with pressure adding a third dimension.

Audio features and specifications

The sound architecture utilizes two digital engines featuring oscillator modes developed by Arturia, Mutable Instruments, and Noise Engineering, paired with analog resonant filters per voice. New sound capabilities include audio-rate filter FM for added harmonics and voice panning across the stereo field. The instrument also features dedicated controls for Type, Wave, Timbre, and Shape.

  • 6-voice polyphony with analog filters
  • Three effect slots with 13 algorithms each
  • 64-step sequencer with four modulation tracks
  • Audio, MIDI, and USB connectivity
  • MiniFreak V plugin included
