Amazona.de uses BotStopper for website security check

· re:union Radio editorial · 1 min read

Amazona.de protects its website with a security verification by BotStopper that is based on the proof of work principle.

Security check on Amazona.de

A protective measure against automated bot traffic and malicious requests is utilized on the Amazona.de website. This mechanism works similarly to a CAPTCHA, but it does not require users to complete manual interaction tasks for verification.

Operation via proof of work

Instead of manual actions, the system assigns a computational calculation to the user's web browser. The browser solves this task independently to confirm that it represents a valid client. This concept is designated as Proof of Work. The calculation process takes only a few seconds, after which access to the website is immediately granted.

Technical requirements for Anubis

The protective feature known as Anubis requires modern JavaScript capabilities to operate correctly. Plugins such as JShelter disable these features. Visitors must turn off JShelter or similar plugins for the specific domain so that the verification can proceed.

Development and background

The deployed security tool is called BotStopper and is developed by Techaro from Canada. Alongside the security interface, Amazona.de points to its legal imprint and features the slogan that music can change the world.
