DiscoDSP introduces TED-8, an eight-voice software emulation of the Oberheim TEO-5 featuring direct hardware integration.
DiscoDSP has introduced the TED-8 software plugin. The emulation is modeled after the Oberheim TEO-5 and is based on measurements taken from actual hardware. Controls, response curves, and slight pitch and level variations between individual voices were included in the design.
Extended Voice Architecture and Filter
Compared to the hardware, the plugin provides eight voices. A poly unison mode offers up to six voices per note, totaling up to 48 simultaneous voices. The 2-pole state-variable filter in SEM style continuously sweeps from low-pass through notch to high-pass, accompanied by a band-pass mode.
Modulation, Effects, and Hardware Integration
Modulation features two envelopes with delay stages and loop options, plus two LFOs with five waveforms, tempo sync, slew, and reset. LFO 1 functions globally, while LFO 2 operates per voice. A 16-slot modulation matrix handles routing. Additional features include:
- Arpeggiator with multiple playback patterns across up to three octaves
- Step sequencer with up to 64 steps and chords containing up to five notes
- Twelve effect types including various delays, modulations, and a dedicated reverb
Via USB, TED-8 establishes bidirectional communication with a TEO-5 to mirror parameter changes and manage up to 256 user programs. Presets from OB-Xd are supported as well.
