Soundmachines Dynamo adds velocity and aftertouch to instruments externally. Four sensor pods placed underneath capture pressure and weight distribution.
Dynamic control without hardware modification
The Soundmachines Dynamo performance system has been introduced. Four sensor pods sit underneath the feet of an instrument to detect pressure and physical interaction in real time. Because the system operates entirely externally, instruments require no drilling, internal wiring, or opening of the chassis.
Outputs and expressive control
The measured force is translated into control data, with several control formats running simultaneously:
- Velocity and channel aftertouch
- MIDI Note On/Off, Control Change, and SysEx
- USB-MIDI and DIN-MIDI
- Control voltage (CV) and triggers
- Expression pedal signals
Weight shifting across the four sensors enables X-Y parameter assignments, such as controlling cutoff and resonance. On monophonic synthesizers, the distribution of force allows the system to estimate key positions for modulation purposes. When placed under drum machines, taps, localized pressure, or leaning forward can trigger sounds and adjust parameters.
Built-in audio processing and calibration
Audio from the instrument can be routed directly through the unit. Movement and force modulate resonant filtering, wah, tremolo, panning, spatial modulation, and mono-to-stereo processing, even on gear lacking MIDI or CV inputs. A calibration routine determines resting weight and dynamic range, while GAIN, OFFSET, and THRESHOLD controls are located on the front panel alongside preset storage.
