DJ setup for clubs: what the CDJ-3000, DJM-A9 and Sennheiser HD 25 offer according to their makers – Hot Cues, booth sound, B2B sets and cueing.
Play a club and your DJ setup usually follows the same chain: players, mixer, headphones. The CDJ-3000 is Pioneer DJ's flagship multi player, the DJM-A9 is the four-channel mixer that, according to the manufacturer, keeps the functions and layout that have become club standards – and the Sennheiser HD 25 has been a fixture in DJ booths for more than 30 years. Here's what these three devices do and what matters in the club.

The player: why the CDJ-3000 sits in the booth
Pioneer DJ put an MPU (micro-processing unit) into a CDJ for the first time with the CDJ-3000, aiming for stable performance. What counts most in a club is the safety net: the player caches the full audio file. If the LAN cable in the Pro DJ Link network fails, the track still plays to the end.
Add a lockable V-Lock power cable (not in all regions), an aluminium top plate and a screen the manufacturer says is more than 150 percent brighter than on the CDJ-2000NXS2. That helps you in dark booths as much as on open-air stages.
Performance: Hot Cues, Beat Jump, Key Sync

Key Sync matches the key of the next track to the master deck, Key Shift moves it manually. If you mix harmonically, combine it with the Camelot Wheel. The CDJ-3000 also controls Serato DJ Pro, TRAKTOR PRO 3 and djay PRO AI for Mac via USB-HID.
The mixer: DJM-A9 as the control centre
The DJM-A9 converts its channel inputs with 32-bit A/D converters from ESS Technology; the master and booth outputs use 32-bit D/A converters from the same brand. The idea: in the booth you hear the same sound as the dancefloor. A 2-band booth EQ adjusts the highs and lows of the booth monitors separately.
For DJ changeovers there are two USB Type-B and two USB Type-C ports, so two computers can be connected at once, plus two independent headphone outputs. The Multi I/O section sends signals to external effects such as the RMX-1000 or a delay pedal and returns them to a separate channel. The mic input provides phantom power for condenser microphones.

The headphones: HD 25 for loud booths
In a club, cueing means fighting the sound system. For the HD 25, Sennheiser relies on strong passive isolation, a maximum sound pressure level of 120 dB and a rotating capsule so you can cue with one ear. Cable, ear pads and headband pad are replaceable; the single-sided cable is detachable.

Can I play Traktor or Serato on the CDJ-3000?
Yes. The CDJ-3000 supports USB-HID control of Serato DJ Pro, TRAKTOR PRO 3 and djay PRO AI for Mac. Alternatively, you play rekordbox-analysed music straight from a USB drive.
How many CDJ-3000 units can be linked?
Via Pro DJ Link with Gigabit Ethernet, up to six CDJ-3000 units share music from USB devices and SD cards – with a compatible six-channel mixer such as the DJM-V10.
What is the difference between the DJM-A9 and the DJM-900NXS2?
The DJM-A9 uses 32-bit instead of 24-bit A/D converters and adds a Bluetooth input, phantom power, mic effects and USB Type-C. The Sound Color FX get a Center Lock knob.
