Pulsar Audio, Born Second, and Analog Obsession have introduced free plugins, featuring two tape emulations and a reverse delay effect.
New free effects overview
A recent overview presents three free plugins covering different recording and processing effects.
Pulsar Audio DigiTape
DigiTape by Pulsar Audio emulates two early digital tape simulation algorithms from the 2000s. It features two modes (Colour, Grain) and five types called Halo, Gasoline, Flare, Sheen, and Shade. In addition to a Drive control, the software provides Brightness and Mix knobs. Compatibility covers PC and Mac across AU, AAX, VST, and VST3.
Born Second Timetravel
Timetravel by Born Second is a reverse delay plugin modeled after the out-of-production BL-44 pedal by Old Blood Noise Endeavors. Incoming audio is captured and played backward like an echo. The Clock knob adjusts the sample rate, which also changes the reach of the effect due to the fixed memory size. The Speed control alters the tempo and pitch of the reversed signal within a range of ±1 octave. It is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Analog Obsession The Machine
With The Machine, Analog Obsession provides an emulation of a tape machine with a tube preamp. After setting the input level, users can push the audio into saturation using the Drive knob. Two tape speeds are available (7.5 or 15 IPS). For lo-fi effects, wow, flutter, and noise can be added. The plugin runs on macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
