Fingerlab has introduced BloopMachine, a monophonic synth sequencer for iOS and macOS inspired by the TB-303.

Fingerlab has introduced BloopMachine, a monophonic synthesizer sequencer. The software takes cues from the TB-303 and is aimed at acid patterns, glitch textures, and generative music. The developer mentions Aphex Twin, Autechre, and Morton Subotnick as musical inspirations.

Synthesis and sequencer

Sound generation uses a monophonic wavetable synthesizer with a resonant filter. Controls include octave, shape, decay, tone, phase, LFO, and a bend feature. The built-in step sequencer provides up to 32 steps for programming notes, octaves, and all synthesis parameters. A mutate feature reshapes synth and effect parameters at the touch of a button.

Effects and features

The application includes an effect section that can be sequenced and mutated, featuring the following modules:

  • Ring modulator
  • Distortion
  • Chorus
  • Delay
  • Reverb

Additionally, the software offers 48 patterns, a song mode for arranging them into a timeline, tempo and swing controls, and an undo function. Users can manage, import, and export presets and export audio in real time. Future additions include MIDI mapping, MIDI-in clock, and Ableton Link, though no dates have been set.

System requirements

The program operates as a standalone app or an AUv3 plugin on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. System requirements are iOS or iPadOS 15.6 or later and macOS 12.5 or later. On Mac computers, it runs natively on Apple Silicon. The download size is 13.1 MB, and the interface is provided in English.
