GForce Software has introduced the Oberheim Matrix-12 software synthesizer, developed alongside original designer Marcus Ryle.
Official recreation of the synthesizer
GForce Software has introduced the GForce Software Oberheim Matrix-12, a software emulation of the 1985 hardware synthesizer. The instrument was developed in collaboration with Marcus Ryle, one of the original designers of the hardware. The original model followed the six-voice Xpander, combining the architecture of two such units.
Sound engine and voice architecture
The digital emulation models the complete structure of the original hardware:
- 24 VCOs, with two oscillators per voice
- Multimode filters offering 15 individual modes
- Envelope generators and VCAs
Expanded software features
The instrument includes a redesigned on-screen interface where modulation routing is handled via drag-and-drop, supported by visual feedback across all modules. In addition to the original architecture, the plugin includes full MPE support, an FX section, and a preset library featuring nearly 200 original Matrix-12 and Xpander patches.
Compatibility and formats
The software operates on Windows and macOS as a standalone application, as well as in VST2, VST3, and AAX formats, with an AU version available exclusively for macOS.
