трип: How Nina Kraviz's label shapes the techno underground

· re:union Radio editorial · 2 min read

Nina Kraviz's label трип was named Mixmag's Label of the Year in 2015 and continues to unearth fresh underground talent.

Few techno labels bear the unmistakable signature of a single artist quite like трип (Russian for "Trip") – the imprint of DJ and producer Nina Kraviz. Since its founding in 2014, the label has evolved from a personal side project into a major force in the international techno underground.

At a glance

  • Nina Kraviz founded трип in 2014 as her own label
  • In 2015, Mixmag named трип "Label of the Year"
  • The track "I Wanna Go Bang" was the catalyst

From Side Project to Flagship

Nina Kraviz, born in Irkutsk and a trained dentist before dedicating herself entirely to electronic music, released her self-titled debut album in 2012 via Rekids. Two years later, she founded her own label, трип – a move that gave her full creative control over the sound and aesthetic of her releases. In addition to трип, Kraviz's productions have also appeared over the years on Underground Quality, Naïf, BPitch Control, The Gym, and GALAXIID.

Label of the Year

трип received a decisive boost in 2015 when Mixmag named it "Label of the Year." The surprising success of the track "I Wanna Go Bang," released via трип, which garnered attention far beyond the techno scene, was a key factor. Booking agency Paramount Artists describes this moment:

“In 2015 трип was chosen a record label of the year Mixmag, following on from the huge crossover hit 'I Wanna Go Bang'.”

During the same period, Kraviz further expanded her role as a curator: in 2016, she took on a monthly residency at BBC Radio 1 and concluded the year with her own mix for the renowned fabric CD series.
