Rekordbox 7: 4-Stem Separation and Cloud Sync for DJs
· re:union Radio editorial · 2 min read
Rekordbox 7 separates tracks into four stems, syncs libraries via cloud, and integrates Spotify on CDJ/XDJ.
Pioneer DJ's DJ software Rekordbox has significantly evolved with the 7 series. Instead of one big leap, the manufacturer is introducing new features step by step through ongoing updates – if you last checked it out before the 6th generation, you'll now find a noticeably different tool.
At a glance
- STEMS function separates tracks into 4 parts: Vocal, Instrumental, Bass, Drums
- Cloud Library Sync with simplified setup wizard
- Spotify integration now usable directly on CDJ/XDJ systems
- New hardware support for CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN
Four Separate Stems
The core of the 7 series is the enhanced STEMS function. It separates tracks into four parts: Vocal, Instrumental, Bass, and Drums. Instead of just muting the vocals, you can now precisely isolate the bassline or mix in a drum layer from a second track – possibilities that were previously reserved for external remix tools.
Cloud Analysis and Sync Across Multiple Devices
In parallel, Pioneer DJ has revamped Cloud Library Sync. A setup wizard is designed to simplify initial setup, and the library can be kept synchronized across multiple devices depending on your subscription plan. Cloud-based processing is also used for track analysis.
Spotify Moves to CDJ and XDJ
Spotify integration has significantly caught up in several updates: Automix support and playlist management directly from Spotify were added, as well as a sorting function for Hot Cues by time and support for the new hardware CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN. Now, logging in directly on CDJ/XDJ systems is also possible – Spotify tracks now appear in EXPORT mode, but are still not playable via USB or LINK.
New Cue and Hardware Functions
The package is complemented by a new SMART CUE function and the ability to edit Spotify playlists directly in Rekordbox. Together with Hot Cue sorting by time and hardware connectivity to CDJ-1500X and XDJ-AN, it's clear that Pioneer DJ is closely linking the software to current club hardware.
