Richie Hawtin scores Pradasphere exhibition as Plastikman

Using his Plastikman alias, Richie Hawtin has created the soundtrack for a new Pradasphere exhibition presented by fashion house Prada in Milan. The showcase is hosted at the Prada Galleria, where the artist provided individual musical compositions tailored for each specific room.

Soundscapes for architecture and heritage

Hawtin described music as an unseen power resonating with emotions just as it does with architecture. For Pradasphere, he explained that the soundscapes employ subtle frequencies and rhythms to translate Prada's aesthetics into an acoustic journey through the building and the label's history.

Ongoing partnership with Prada

This contribution forms part of a continuing creative relationship between the producer and the fashion brand. In 2023, Hawtin was credited as Plastikman on the soundtrack for the Pradasphere II retrospective held in Shanghai. Portions of that material were reworked for the upcoming presentation in Milan.

Additionally, Hawtin has scored five Prada runway shows since 2021 and acted as the creative director behind Prada Extends, a collaborative music and culture initiative. That series debuted at Tate Modern before staging events in Tokyo, Miami, and Bangkok.

Exhibition details and hardware project

The Pradasphere exhibition is directed by Miuccia Prada inside Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, situated at the historical location where Fratelli Prada established the brand in 1913.

Earlier in May, Hawtin introduced Bullfrog, a drum machine developed alongside Erica Synths. The instrument was designed as an educational tool to help users refine drum programming skills.
