re:union Records — Ten Releases, One Attitude

Ten releases. No press machine, no PR agency, no hype cycle. Just tracks that are exactly what they want to be. re:union Records is one of those labels you either discover by chance on SoundCloud or because someone drops the link in a chat. And then you stay.

Founding: collective, not career plan

The label was founded at the turn of 2022 / 2023 by Thorin Tønsberg — though „founded" doesn't quite capture it. „I had tracks, others had tracks, and we didn't want to just dump them into the timeline stream and forget them," Thorin recalls. What began as a loose group of DJs and producers trading demos slowly grew into a proper label operation: cover design, release numbers, Bandcamp store, Beatport listing, Spotify presence. The name is the programme. Re:union. The label sees itself as a collective, not a business. Decisions are discussed on Discord, cover variants are voted on, release dates coordinated. No A&R from above, no chart-chasing filter.

The idea: independent, dark, uncompromising

The thread running through the catalogue is clear: Dark Techno with substance, Hard Techno without gimmicks, Industrial as a legitimate means of expression rather than a costume. Listen through releases 001 to 010 and you notice immediately: there's an attitude behind this, not a sound that happens to work right now. A good reference frame is a glance at the Beatport Hard Techno charts, where the re:union catalogue regularly surfaces.

„We don't release anything that isn't backed by someone in the collective," Thorin says. „That doesn't mean everything has to sound the same. But it has to have intention. A track isn't Dark Techno just because it has 140 bpm and distortion on it."

Release strategy: SoundCloud-first

The release workflow is deliberately simple: new tracks land on SoundCloud first, where the community is most active. Feedback comes in immediately, often on release weekend. If a track lands, it moves a few weeks later to Beatport for the DJ community and to Spotify for listeners who stream rather than collect. Bandcamp acts as the archive and for anyone who wants their collection physical or in full FLAC quality.

„We're not against the big platforms," Thorin makes clear. „But we start where the conversation happens. And for us that's SoundCloud."

Demo policy: open but focused

The label accepts demos — and means it. No demo drops in DMs, but a dedicated path via the submit a demo form, and every demo submitted is listened to. „We don't always answer immediately, but we listen to everything," Thorin says. „What we're after isn't perfection, it's attitude. If you have something to say, you have a chance with us."
