155 BPM, no mercy
The first four bars set the direction. A kick at 155 BPM, extremely short and with a hard transient, cuts through the mix like a punch press. Over it, a rim-shot pattern runs in sixteenth-note resolution and grants no break. A metallic-sounding bass sequencer runs in a major tonality — unusual for the genre, but precisely what gives the track its threatening freshness. It doesn't sound like the underground, it sounds like an inevitable triumph machine.
The central vocal hook — a chopped, heavily distorted "you can't escape" — doesn't emerge until 1:40. From then on, the track is in peak-time mode and stays there for seven minutes. No classic breakdown, no breather. Tønsberg himself called the track his "most honest" in a studio interview.
Why this release matters
Hard Techno in 2026 is no longer a niche phenomenon. Events like HÖR Berlin livestreams, Verknipt Festival and the RoomForResistance nights in Amsterdam have pushed the genre into the mainstream. With "You Can't Escape", Tønsberg plants himself at the heart of that movement — and at the same time shows that hardness and creativity don't have to be opposites. The track continues the line Tønsberg opened with "After the Storm", but pushes it a decisive step further.
On the technical side, the track was built entirely in-the-box, using a combination of Ableton Live, Arturia Pigments and various UAD plug-ins. Tønsberg occasionally documents his workflow live on Twitch during the Friday Night Sessions — an unusually open approach in an otherwise secretive techno scene.

For DJs, "You Can't Escape" is a reliable tool. It works as the opener for the hardest section of a set and as a peak after a slower build-up. The uncompromising structure makes it easy to mix — 32-bar phrases, no unusual arrangement quirks, clean kicks.
